Raheem Sterling told to join Fulham to revive Premier League career following terrible loan spell at Arsenal from Chelsea

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Chelsea winger moved to Arsenal on a season-long loan last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, but has failed to make an impact with the Gunners. Sterling has managed just one goal in 27 appearances in all competitions from Mikel Arteta’s side and will now head back to Chelsea when his loan deal expires

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sterling is facing an uncertain future as he doesn’t appear to be part of Chelsea’s future plans but his huge wages may mean the Blues find it difficult to offload him permanently. Another loan spell could therefore be in the offing, with former Chelsea star William Gallas tipping the winger to make the short trip from Stamford Bridge to Craven Cottage.

  • WHAT GALLAS SAID

Gallas, speaking to Genting Casino, who offer the latest Casino Games, said: “I think it’s time for a fresh challenge for Raheem Sterling, he has the chance to show what he could do at Chelsea and then Arsenal but it hasn’t happened. He needs to go somewhere he will get more opportunities because even with some rotation at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta hasn’t given him that. I think one of Arteta’s biggest mistakes has been a lack of rotation at times because they have picked up injuries. You have to give players a rest at certain times, but with Sterling, he must be frustrated, maybe he will want to stay in the Premier League and in London. He’s 30 now, but maybe a club like Fulham could give him that opportunity and more chances to play. I’m curious to see what happens next.”

    WHAT’S NEXT FOR STERLING

Arsenal’s final game of the Premier League season is against Southampton on Sunday at St Mary’s Stadium and looks to be Sterling’s last chance to feature for the Gunners before he heads back to his parent club.
